Coquitlam RCMP is investigating the vandalization of a Terry Fox statue at the 2100 block of Wilson Avenue in Port Coquitlam after an unidentified substance was poured on it.

Police said the damage occurred between midnight on June 12 and 7 a.m. on June 13. The substance coated part of the statue's head and chest. The vandalism was first reported on June 17.

Port Coquitlam Mayor Brad West called the incident "incredibly disappointing" and committed to repairs. "We'll repair the damage," he posted on social media. "But what Terry stood for—courage, determination, and hope—that can never be damaged."

RCMP Sergeant Adriana O'Malley said Fox's legacy remains deeply connected to the community. "The damage caused to this statue is both upsetting and disrespectful to the legacy he created," she said.

Anyone who was in the area between June 12 and June 13 and witnessed the vandalism is asked to contact Coquitlam RCMP at 604-945-1550, quoting file number 2026-15377.
