Port Coquitlam is hosting its annual Canada Day celebration Wednesday, July 1, with a full day of free entertainment, family activities, and fireworks after dark across multiple community sites.
Morning festivities begin early across several locations. At Lions Park from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., children 10 and under can enter a free fishing derby with prizes — no registration required. At the Port Coquitlam Community Centre, the Canada Day Breakfast hosted by the Lions Club runs 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in Mabbett Hall, serving pancakes, sausages, and a drink for $7. The centre also offers free drop-in basketball in the gymnasium and free drop-in lacrosse in Arena 1.
By early afternoon, activities shift to Castle Park (1 p.m. to dusk) with live entertainment, food vendors, a beverage garden, family-friendly programming, and local vendors and community organizations.
The main stage lineup anchors the celebration with two generations of Canadian music: April Wine, one of Canada's most iconic rock bands, will deliver decades of hits including "Just Between You and Me", "Roller", and "You Could Have Been a Lady". Country star Owen Riegling, known for "Old Dirt Roads" and "Moonshines", follows as the evening headliner, bringing fresh energy into the fireworks finale.
Mayor Brad West framed the event as a major summer draw: "Port Coquitlam's Canada Day celebration is one of the biggest community events of the summer. We invite everyone to join us for a full day of free entertainment, family fun and fireworks."
Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets or beach chairs. The celebration wraps with the fireworks display after dark.
