The Dinsmore Bridge in Richmond will close nightly starting Monday, September 14 through Thursday, December 31 for necessary safety and infrastructure upgrades, Vancouver International Airport announced.
The bridge will remain open during the day but will be closed to drivers, pedestrians and cyclists from Sunday to Friday between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. A reduced speed limit of 30 km/h will apply during daylight hours throughout the work period. Traffic will be detoured onto the No. 2 Road Bridge during overnight closures.
YVR said the upgrades will improve safety, reliability and the lifespan of the bridge, which serves as a critical link to Sea Island and airport operations. "The planned overnight closure and designated detour route will allow essential maintenance to be completed while supporting continued access to Sea Island for airport operations, employees, and the travelling public," YVR stated.
Scheduled work may be affected by weather and other factors. YVR urged drivers to allow extra time if travelling through the area and to obey all traffic personnel and signage.
Nearby, the Queensborough Bridge in New Westminster is also undergoing major rehabilitation work that will continue until Fall 2027. That work includes extensive bridge deck resurfacing, structural repairs, replacement of deck joints and upgrades to the bridge's drainage system. The B.C. Ministry of Transportation and Transit is conducting that project, which involves nighttime lane closures allowing traffic to flow one lane in each direction.
