Six people remain missing after a charter boat sank off the coast of Richmond on Sunday morning, June 28.

The vessel began taking on water near Roberts Bank around 11:45 a.m. with an estimated 10 people on board. Another vessel reported the incident to the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre Victoria, triggering a large search and rescue operation.

Four people were rescued from the water and transferred to emergency health services. The incident occurred approximately 18 kilometres southwest of Vancouver International Airport.

The search has involved the RCMP, Royal Canadian Air Force, Canadian Coast Guard, Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue, and BC Ferries. The RCMP deployed two boats from West Coast Marine Services—the P.V. Lindsay and P.V. Higgitt—as well as two helicopters: an RCMP Black Hawk and an H145 Airbus from RCMP Air Services.

The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
