Six missing after charter boat sinks near Richmond

A search for six people has been suspended after a charter boat sank in the Strait of Georgia on Sunday, June 28.
The vessel began taking on water near Roberts Bank around 11:45 a.m., about 10 nautical miles southwest of Vancouver Airport. RCMP says 10 people were aboard when the incident was reported by another civilian vessel. Four people were rescued, but six remain unaccounted for.
The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre Victoria suspended the search-and-rescue operation at 9:45 p.m. Sunday. The response has been transferred to the RCMP. The search involved the Canadian Coast Guard, RCMP, BC Ferries, aircraft from 19 Wing Comox, and several civilian vessels, including a Black Hawk helicopter.
According to reports from the scene, three of the four rescued people had no life jackets. The cause of the sinking is unknown and remains under investigation.
