Surrey Student Housing Tower Breaks Ground
Western Community College's 810-bed residence will open by fall 2028, marking the city's first purpose-built student housing.
Ground was broken Wednesday on Surrey's first dedicated student housing tower — a 23-storey residence that will add 810 beds to the city's post-secondary infrastructure.
The development, built by partners ICT Group and Lark Group with UniLodge Canada managing operations, sits in City Centre 5 at Surrey's Health and Technology District, north of Surrey Memorial Hospital. The 182,000-square-foot tower is targeted for completion in fall 2028.
The project addresses a growing gap in purpose-built student accommodation across the Metro Vancouver suburbs. With Western Community College's expansion and the region's growing post-secondary enrollment, dedicated housing like this is increasingly critical — students have historically relied on rental apartments or commute from family homes. The development promises state-of-the-art amenities and modern dorm design, positioning Surrey as a more livable destination for out-of-town learners.
Completion in 2028 would align the project with broader student housing momentum across B.C., where enrollment pressures continue to drive investment in residence infrastructure.
