A scuba diver died in the waters off Whytecliff Park in West Vancouver on Sunday, July 26, marking the second diving fatality at the location this year.
West Vancouver police responded to a report of a distressed diver at the popular dive spot at 10:45 a.m. Despite efforts by fellow divers, West Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services, and B.C. Emergency Health Services Air Ambulance, the male diver in his 60s was declared deceased at the scene. Police said there are no early indications of suspicious circumstances related to his death.
Just over two months earlier, on May 24, a 50-year-old scuba diver died in the same location. The waters off Whytecliff Park are known for deep diving conditions, particularly in an underwater rock channel called The Cut that creates depths close to the shore. Four divers have died at Whytecliff Park since 2016.
