White Rock Pier will receive $25 million for reconstruction through the federal Build Communities Strong Fund, Member of Parliament Ernie Klassen announced on Wednesday, July 1.

The 2018 winter storm destroyed a 100-metre section of the pier and severely damaged the rest. The remaining structure is now reaching the end of its service life and requires full replacement to meet current safety standards, including seismic requirements.

The reconstruction will improve safety and accessibility, strengthen weather resiliency, and ensure the landmark endures for future generations. A new ramp at the upper intertidal beach will provide equal access for people of all ages and abilities.

The Semiahmoo First Nation is being consulted on cultural and historical preservation and for fishing boat storage. Work will replace aging timber with a more durable and resilient design.

The White Rock Pier sits in Semiahmoo Bay and holds deep cultural and historical significance for the community. This second phase of reconstruction is expected to preserve its role as a point of pride for the region.
