Independent B.C. MLA Jordan Kealy has been charged with sexual assault for alleged offences that occurred between January 1 and September 20, 2024. Kealy represents Peace River North.

The B.C. Prosecution Service announced the charge Thursday, with a special prosecutor appointed to the case to avoid any appearance of improper influence given Kealy's position as an elected official. Kealy is expected to appear in Fort St. John court on July 6.

The investigation was conducted by the North District Prince George RCMP. Special prosecutor Gail Barnes, a senior Vancouver lawyer, was appointed February 9 to oversee the case.

The B.C. Prosecution Service said it will not release additional information at this time.
