Flair launches first non-stop flight from Vancouver to Guanajuato, Mexico

Flair Airlines is launching the first non-stop flight from Vancouver to Guanajuato, Mexico starting October 3, offering weekly service to a region known for colonial heritage and affordability compared to typical beach resort trips.

Flights depart Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and land at Guanajuato (BJX), which serves the Bajío region in central Mexico. The landing point provides access to three destinations: Guanajuato city, León, and San Miguel de Allende. The Bajío is known for rich colonial history, including the Shrine of Christ the King on Cerro del Cubilete in nearby Silao—a 20-metre bronze statue of Jesus.

Guanajuato state has just over six million residents, making it Mexico's sixth most populous state. The capital city has around 200,000 residents; León, the largest municipality in the state, has just under two million.

Flair is holding a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Vancouver route this Saturday at YVR. The airline says the flight opens "new opportunities for tourism, business and connections between families and communities in Canada and Mexico."

The Guanajuato route announcement came one day after Air Canada launched direct service from Vancouver to Guangzhou, China—a three-times-weekly year-round flight starting May 4, 2027. Guangzhou is the capital and largest city of Guangdong province and a major centre for manufacturing and high-tech industries.
