Ken Sim held his final council meeting as Vancouver mayor, hugging councillors, staff and mayor-elect Pete Fry before the chamber. Sim said it had "been an honour and a privilege to be able to humbly serve the city that we love."

Fry, a two-term Green Party city councillor, defeated Sim in the Oct. 17 civic election. Sim's final words in his speech were directed at Fry: "knock it out of the park, buddy." The incoming council will have five Greens, four COPE councillors, one OneCity councillor and one ABC Vancouver councillor, Mike Klassen, the only ABC candidate returning to city hall.

Several departing councillors gave farewell speeches. Lisa Dominato said she "listened, showed up" and kept a "laser focus" on the public interest. Lenny Zhou acknowledged that politics can make people "impatient" and "defensive," and said he had not always listened as carefully as he should have.
