Michael Coyle, a longtime search-and-rescue volunteer who received national recognition for his work, was found dead on a mountain bike trail in Squamish on July 26.
Coyle was discovered unresponsive while mountain biking. Despite efforts by other riders and Squamish EMS, he could not be revived. Squamish Search and Rescue carried him from the trail.
According to his online profile, Coyle was a volunteer manager with Coquitlam Search and Rescue, a software developer, and a kidney transplant recipient. In 2019, he received the Governor General of Canada Sovereign Medal for Volunteers. In 2014, Coquitlam SAR awarded him the Rollie Award for Excellence in recognition of 15 years of contributions to the organization.
