South Surrey is moving forward with a major interchange project designed to manage the region's rapid growth. The 24th Avenue and Highway 99 Interchange Ramps project, developed with the BC government, will introduce north-facing access and exit points along Highway 99 to ease traffic congestion. City council recently approved awarding a contract for preliminary design and entered into a joint funding agreement with the province for engineering services. The design will include a new southbound off-ramp with a signalized intersection at 24th Avenue, plus a partial westbound to northbound right-turn on-ramp. The project also calls for widening 20th Avenue from 160th Street to Oak Meadows Drive into a four-lane section with pedestrian and cycling facilities, traffic signals, and streetlights. Preliminatory design is expected to be complete by November 2026, though progression beyond that stage depends on provincial funding approval. The work will require closing Croydon Drive from 20th Avenue; the street will be realigned and reconnected to 20th Avenue once land is secured through the development process. Separately, the city has issued a request for bids on a second major project along 24th Avenue between 172nd and 166th streets, which includes approximately 1,200 metres of new watermain on 24th and 820 metres on 172nd Street, plus road work and streetlight upgrades.
