The BC SPCA is providing emergency support to wildfire evacuees with free pet food, supplies, temporary boarding, and care for animals forced from their homes.
Free pet food and supplies are available at BC SPCA animal centres across the province. The organization is also offering temporary and free emergency boarding for pets of evacuees displaced by wildfires. Animal protection officers have been working behind fire lines to provide feed and water to animals where operational capacity and permits allow.
Photos of stray animals brought into BC SPCA care have been posted to the organization's local Facebook pages to help reunite families with lost pets. The province has so far burned more than 3,000 square kilometres of land this season, forcing hundreds of residents to evacuate.
The BC SPCA is asking ranchers and farmers to check with their local Emergency Operations Centre about applying for passes to return to their properties and check on farmed animals.
