A 28-year-old woman has died in hospital as a result of injuries sustained in the sinking of a charter fishing boat off Roberts Bank on June 28. The victim was a Chinese citizen residing in Seattle.

Ten people were aboard the Big Coast, a 2017 Kingfisher 3025 Destination operated by Top Vancouver Fishing Charter Inc., when it sank. Four people were rescued that day. Three survivors have since been released from hospital, including a 26-year-old man from Richmond and a 33-year-old woman from Toronto.

Six individuals remain missing: a 33-year-old man from Toronto; a 31-year-old woman from Redmond, Washington; a 31-year-old man, a Chinese citizen residing in Seattle; a 29-year-old woman from West Vancouver; a 32-year-old man from West Vancouver; and a 22-year-old man from Richmond who was the vessel operator.

On July 6, the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team located the sunken vessel approximately 153 metres below the surface using a remotely operated vehicle. Investigators were able to confirm the vessel's identity, but significant depth, darkness and underwater conditions limited efforts to examine the interior. No occupants were found outside the vessel on the surrounding seabed. Police and partner agencies are currently evaluating specialized recovery options, recognizing that raising the vessel will require highly specialized marine equipment and technical expertise.

Families have asked that names not be released. Next-of-kin notifications have been completed for all victims and missing persons.
