The Vancouver Aquatic Centre will shut down this Sunday, June 28, after the B.C. Supreme Court denied an injunction to keep the facility operating.

The Protecting Our Vancouver Aquatic Centre Society had fought to stop the closure, arguing the new pool being built to replace it should include a 50-metre competition lane rather than the planned 25-metre design. The court sided against them.

Demolition of the current centre will begin shortly after closure. Construction on the new facility, featuring the 25-metre pool, will start later this year.

The 50-metre pool supporters have lost their legal bid to halt the project, but the design dispute remains unresolved in broader civic terms.
