Vancouver selected Zack Ross and The Show Vancouver as preferred MLB expansion team partner

Vancouver City Council has selected The Show Vancouver (TSV), a group founded by local real estate developer Zack Ross and backed by globally recognized sports industry specialists, as its preferred private sector partner to lead the city's bid for a Major League Baseball expansion franchise.

Ross is president of Cape Group, a multigenerational Vancouver-based real estate development company. The selection follows a competitive procurement process launched in April 2026, after council approved Mayor Ken Sim's motion directing city staff to find a qualified ownership group capable of financing an MLB expansion bid—a multibillion-dollar undertaking covering ballpark construction, league expansion fees, and other major startup costs.

Sim's motion was triggered by Ross's unsolicited proposal to the city, which had been in development for some time. The procurement process, which closed on June 19, required prospective bidders to outline potential stadium locations, design concepts, and financial feasibility plans. Critically, the city made clear that the selected private sector proponent must finance the design, construction, and operation of any new ballpark.

TSV's vision centres on a landmark ballpark anchored by an adjacent mixed-use real estate development at what the group describes as an "iconic site"—though neither TSV nor the city has disclosed the specific location. "Vancouver is my home, and it is one of the great cities in the world, and we deserve a Major League Baseball team," Ross said. "Our vision is a world-class MLB franchise anchored by a landmark ballpark and mixed-use real estate development at an iconic site, creating a destination that generates economic activity, civic pride, and community benefit for generations."

This represents a significant step forward in Vancouver's effort to return to Major League Baseball after the Canucks left for Seattle in 1995.
