Vancouver has secured third place on Skyscanner's list of most popular summer travel destinations for Canadians, beating out tourism heavyweights like Paris and Rome.
The ranking reflects a broader shift toward domestic travel as Canadians plan their summer escapes. Toronto and Calgary rounded out the top two spots, making it a Canadian sweep of the podium. Paris and Tokyo followed in the fifth and fourth positions, respectively. Montreal also cracked the top 10 in eighth place.
"Some places are popular for a reason," Skyscanner noted in its Smarter Summer Report. "These are seeing high interest, loved for their standout sights and all-around vacation appeal."
For those considering a Vancouver trip, Skyscanner identified some flexibility tactics that could help save money. Being flexible with both destinations and travel dates makes a major difference in pricing. June and September are described as "summer's quieter overachievers" — you still get the sunshine but with lower prices, shorter lines, and a better shot at dinner reservations.
For visitors targeting Vancouver specifically, the cheapest week to travel is August 31 to September 6, with Friday identified as the cheapest day of the week.
The surge in Vancouver's ranking comes as the city prepares for an influx of visitors during the FIFA World Cup, which runs June 11 through July 19. The tournament is expected to bring hundreds of thousands of additional visitors to the region, with watch parties, concerts, and soccer-science exhibits planned across the city.
Vancouver's combination of mountains, ocean, and urban culture continues to draw travellers — especially when booking is flexible.
