Vancouver woman arrested after grabbing baby by hair in alleged East Hastings assault

A woman arrested Tuesday allegedly demanded money from a mother walking with her one-year-old baby in a stroller along East Hastings Street near Princess Avenue, then grabbed the child by the hair during the altercation. No one was physically injured.
The incident occurred at about 4:40 p.m. CCTV cameras captured the woman approaching an unidentified man nearby and punching him in the face before leaving. About ten minutes later, police received a report of a woman matching the suspect's description attempting to steal alcohol from a liquor store in the area. Officers attended and made the arrest.
The woman was taken to jail and then to hospital for a pre-existing medical condition. Vancouver Police are requesting assault charges and a warrant upon her release from hospital. The file remains under investigation.
