Four major international food chains have landed in Calgary in recent months, adding to what's been described as a banner year for restaurant openings in the city.
Wingstop, the fast-casual chicken wing concept, opened its first Calgary location at Deerfoot Meadows in June and is preparing a second location at CF Chinook Centre. The concept is known for bone-in and boneless wings and chicken tenders.
Shake Shack arrived with two locations opening back-to-back: the burger-and-shake spot debuted at CF Chinook Centre in May, followed by a Macleod Trail location. Both offer the full Shack menu—burgers, fries and shakes—alongside Alberta-exclusive items.
Jimmy John's, known for loaded sandwiches and Jimmy chips, opened in the University District at 4149 University Avenue N.W., marking the Calgary chain's arrival after first landing in Alberta in Sherwood Park.
Jersey Mike's, celebrated for fresh-sliced submarine sandwiches, opened on Macleod Trail at 9631 and specializes in both cold and grilled hot subs. The chain offers a signature "Mike's Way" preparation with onions, lettuce, tomatoes, vinegar, oil and spices.
