Garam Glam night market brings 30+ vendors and live music Saturday
A UCalgary student-run non-profit fighting warmth inequality hosts its first large-scale event at Realm Salon and Wellness.
Garam Glam, a UCalgary student-run non-profit created to fight warmth inequality, is hosting its first major night market Saturday at Realm Salon and Wellness from 5 to 10 p.m. Nearly 40 vendors will set up alongside a photo booth and three live performers, all in support of the organization's mission to distribute warmth kits and provide healthcare access during winter months.
Vendors range from handmade jewelry and candles to tooth gems, henna, and custom keychains. Instead of paying table fees, each vendor has pledged to donate at least 20 per cent of the night's profits to Garam Glam. Founder Aan Chahal, a UCalgary Bachelor of Science Exercise and Health Physiology student, said the market aims to be more than shopping — it's a space for connection.
"Rather than just being a market, we wanted to be a space for people to connect. That's why we included musicians and food and drinks and a photo booth, so, instead of going out to a restaurant or to the club with your friends Saturday night, consider coming out to us and having a really good time," Chahal said.
One of the headlining performers is Sara Carabone, a Vancouver artist who asked to headline for the organization. Chahal said the team has been nerve-wracked leading up to the event — hosting a night market has been in the works since Garam Glam's founding last summer. But momentum is building: over 200 people had already registered for tickets as of Thursday morning.
Since its August 2025 launch, Garam Glam has grown from making and donating warmth kits to organizing large-scale events. After summer, the organization aims to set up mobile frostbite clinics downtown in November and December.
