Rocky View Schools held a groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday for a new Kindergarten-to-Grade 9 school in Airdrie's Bayview neighbourhood, marking the first RVS facility in the area. The Alberta government is investing more than $54 million in the project, which will support more than 300 jobs and accommodate 905 new student spaces.
Construction is well underway. The school is anticipated to open in September 2028. Airdrie has grown by 20 per cent since Northcott Prairie School, the last new RVS facility, opened in 2020.
"This new school is an important and long-awaited investment in students and the future of our community," said Melyssa Bowen, Board Vice-Chair and Ward 3 Trustee for Airdrie. "As the first RVS facility in the Bayview area, we look forward to watching this school take shape and becoming a welcoming hub for students, staff, families and community members for years to come."
The Bayview school will include more than 30 instructional classrooms, two science labs, and dedicated spaces for art, music, construction technologies, food, and drama programming. It will also feature a 700-person gymnasium and a 250-person ancillary gym.
Education Minister Demetrios Nicolaides noted the project is part of Alberta's Schools Now program, which accelerates school construction in fast-growing communities. "Every student deserves access to a modern, high-quality learning environment close to home," Nicolaides said. Infrastructure Minister Martin Long added that the investment reflects the government's commitment to supporting Airdrie's expanding population with modern infrastructure.
