Rocky View Schools wrapped up a summer of facility improvements across more than two dozen schools in the Airdrie region, adding classrooms to handle enrollment growth and upgrading building systems, accessibility features, and security infrastructure.
The Operations and Maintenance team added modular classrooms at six schools: four at Nose Creek Elementary, two at Ecole Edwards Elementary, four at Rainbow Creek Elementary (plus a washroom unit and parking expansion), two at Ralph McCall School (plus parking expansion), and two at Springbank Middle School. Three more modular projects remain underway: four classrooms at Ecole Airdrie Middle School; two at Manachaban Middle School; and two at Prairie Waters Elementary School.
Accessibility upgrades included specialized washroom additions at Muriel Clayton Middle School and Ralph McCall School. At Banded Peak School, the division completed a major mechanical overhaul: all heat pumps were replaced, along with a new chiller, two new boilers, new glycol pumps, new air handling units, and upgraded building controls and management systems. The same school saw an existing art room transformed into a Career and Technology Programs space with six kitchen workstations, a fully accessible cooking station, a dedicated 3D printing area, upgraded lighting, and new exhaust systems.
Energy-efficiency work included LED lighting and ceiling tile replacement at George McDougall High School; automatic water shutoff valves at Muriel Clayton Middle, Horseshoe Crossing High, and East Lake School; and twelve air conditioning units added at Sarah Thompson School.
Security camera installation was completed at remaining division facilities. Roof replacements finished at R.J. Hawkey Elementary and Bearspaw School; fire panel upgrades at Rainbow Creek Elementary and Bearspaw School; and a new fire system generator at Springbank High School. Outdoor improvements included new playground installation at Glenbow Elementary, asphalt extension at Northcott Prairie School, tree planting at Heloise Lorimer School, and new net support at Rainbow Creek Elementary School.
The projects align with the division's 2026–2030 Strategic Plan priority to "Foster Optimal Learning Environments" by advancing safe, accessible, and functional spaces.
