Airdrie Fire Crews responded to several weather-related incidents on June 30, including reports of localized flooding in parts of Airdrie, particularly in the Bayside neighbourhood.

Fire Chief Mike Pirie praised the coordinated response from local firefighters, Water Services, Municipal Enforcement, and the RCMP. "I'd also like to thank our residents for their patience and cooperation as crews worked to manage these incidents and keep our community safe," Pirie said.

The Airdrie Fire Department issued reminders for residents facing Airdrie's "dynamic storm season": If you hear thunder, head indoors to a sturdy building or hard-topped vehicle. Never drive through flooded roadways, as it can be difficult to judge water depth and even small amounts can affect vehicles. Stay away from downed power lines and report them immediately to your utility provider. Floodwater hides hazards; during heavy rain, storm drains and manhole covers can become displaced or obscured, creating serious dangers for pedestrians and drivers.

Secure loose outdoor furniture and other items before storms arrive. Keep an eye on weather alerts and be prepared for conditions to change quickly.

If flooding occurs, avoid entering flooded basements or areas where electrical hazards may be present, and call 911 only if there is an immediate threat to life or property. Pirie also thanked residents who checked on neighbours and helped one another. "Looking out for each other is one of the things that makes Airdrie such a strong community."
