Airdrie firefighters responded to two fires over the weekend — a garage fire Saturday evening and a vehicle fire Sunday morning — in separate calls that tested the department's rapid response capabilities.

On Saturday around 6 p.m., crews from Chinook Winds Station responded to a working fire in an attached front garage on the 100 block of Luxstone Road. According to Airdrie Fire Department Chief Mike Pirie, crews brought the fire under control quickly upon arrival. "All occupants are out safe with no injuries reported," Pirie said. The fire generated heavy smoke with calls coming from neighbouring communities. The cause remains unknown.

Then on late Sunday morning, firefighters responded to a vehicle fire at a church located west of Veterans Boulevard Fire Station. Crews quickly brought that fire under control and prevented it from spreading to nearby property. No other vehicles were damaged, and there were no injuries. The Fire Prevention Bureau attended the scene and was investigating, though the cause was undetermined as of late Sunday afternoon.

Both incidents highlight the readiness of Airdrie's fire service to handle structure and vehicle emergencies across the community.
