Garage fire contained in northeast Calgary's Cornerstone, two cats rescued
Calgary firefighters responded Monday morning to a structure fire in the 100 block of Cornerstone Manor. The fire was contained to the rear attached garage of a two-story home.

Calgary fire crews responded to a garage fire in the northeast community of Cornerstone on Monday morning at 11:10 a.m.
Crew members were called to the 100 block of Cornerstone Manor and found smoke coming from the rear attached garage of a two-story home. According to public information officer Alex Kwan, firefighters entered through a side door and located an active fire inside the garage.
"They made entries through one of the entry doors and located a fire inside a garage," Kwan said. "Crews went into the alley and found higher smoke conditions stretched the whole line into the backyard."
Firefighters extinguished the blaze and contained the damage to the garage itself. No occupants were home, and a search confirmed no one else was inside the residence.
Two cats were rescued from the home and returned safely to the homeowners. A fire investigator is working to determine the origin and cause of the fire.
