Three people and their three dogs escaped a fire at a Dalhousie home Tuesday morning, June 16, after smoke alerted them to a blaze in the bedroom.

"They reported that they smelled a strange odour and there was a smoky kind of conditions in their home," said Calgary Fire Department information officer Alex Kwan. "When they opened one of the bedroom doors, they found a large amount of smoke inside there and got themselves and their pets out of the home, and called 911."

Fire crews arrived at the two-storey home on Dalhart Hill N.W. around 10 a.m. Three of the home's four occupants were outside with their pets. The fourth person wasn't home. Crews located the fire in one of the back bedrooms and quickly extinguished it.

Although the fire was contained to the bedroom, smoke spread throughout the home and it is questionable if the home is livable. A fire investigator was on scene looking for the cause.
