Lovepreet Deo was honoured with Airdrie's Lifetime Achievement Award on July 7 in recognition of her outstanding dedication to active living, leadership and community contributions. The honour also includes a Lifetime Genesis Place Pass, granting her ongoing access to the recreation facility where she has been a regular since 2014.
"I can't describe how I feel ... there are no words," Deo said upon receiving the award. "I am honoured, I never thought I would receive an award like this."
Just weeks before the honour, Deo completed a stationary half-marathon at Genesis Place on June 10 to highlight the realities of living with Cerebral Palsy while raising money for cancer. She finished in two hours and seven minutes — surpassing her goal of two hours and 30 minutes. The effort drew support from Brad Anderson, the City of Airdrie's Director of Community Services, who accompanied her for the challenge.
Deo spends four days a week at Genesis Place, where she has maintained an active fitness routine for over a decade. When asked about her future plans, she said that whenever she has time, she enjoys her normal workout regimen. Next year, she hopes to complete another marathon with Anderson's support.
Deo took the opportunity to thank Airdrie City Council for the honour and Anderson for his continued support.
