Airdrie is bringing home one of its biggest hockey success stories. Jake Neighbours, an alternate captain for the NHL's St. Louis Blues and an Airdrie native, will return for a public signing event at Morrison Trading Post on Saturday, August 1, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Neighbours was drafted 26th overall in the first round of the 2020 NHL entry draft. His path from Airdrie to the NHL has made him a source of community pride, and local business owner Dallas Morrison saw an opportunity to celebrate that journey while supporting a cause. "Getting to bring him home to meet fans is special on its own," Morrison said. "But having the Thunder out front raising money for the Airdrie Food Bank makes this a true hometown day. We want the whole city to come out."
The Airdrie Techmation Thunder, the city's Junior B hockey club competing in the Heritage Junior Hockey League, will run a barbecue outside the shop during the event, with all proceeds going to the food bank. Morrison Trading Post, located at #202, 2903 Kingsview Blvd SE, specializes in sports cards, collectibles, and memorabilia. Morrison has operated the business for six years alongside his brother and parents.
This isn't the store's first brush with NHL star power — it previously hosted a signing with Calgary Flames goaltender Dustin Wolf in 2024. Morrison said he's been surprised by how many St. Louis Blues fans there are in Airdrie, and the event offers the community a chance to rally around one of their own.
Autographs cost $25, with 200 available and a limit of three per customer. Fans may bring their own items for signing or purchase items in-store, though oversized items like sticks, helmets, and jerseys cannot be signed. More details and ticket information are available at morrisontradingpost.com.
