Two more charged with first-degree murder in 2020 Chestermere teenager's poisoning death

Two more people have been charged in the 2020 murder of Chestermere resident Sahil Grewal, bringing the total to three suspects as the case that lay dormant for more than five years suddenly accelerated.
Grewal, 18, died on April 6, 2020, following an incident on April 3. In July 2025, Conrich resident Mohit Sandhu, 24, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. Police alleged Sandhu delivered a mixture of cough syrup and fentanyl that Grewal consumed. The same mixture was intended for a 25-year-old Calgary resident, Jaskaran Sidhu, who did not receive or consume the substance and was unharmed. Sandhu was charged with attempted murder in that case.
On Monday, RCMP announced that further investigation led to Edmonton resident Harmanjot Chumber, 24, and Rockyview County resident Dalvir Sidhu, 33, being charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder. Chumber was arrested July 22 in Edmonton and was remanded into custody following a bail hearing. His next court appearance is scheduled for August 10 at the Alberta Court of Justice in Calgary. Sidhu was arrested July 24 in Calgary and also remanded into custody after a bail hearing. Sidhu's next court appearance is scheduled for August 7 in Calgary.
