Approximately 100 homes in Eagle Ridge and Heritage Park are under a boil water advisory effective immediately after unexpected depressurization of a water main during planned repairs Friday.
Alberta Health Services ordered the City of Calgary to issue the advisory because the depressurization prevented a guarantee of water quality. Crews were conducting the repairs on a water main supporting southwest communities when the depressurization occurred. The issue is unrelated to ongoing work on the Bearspaw feeder main.
All water used for drinking, coffee, tea, cooking, brushing teeth, cleaning raw food, preparing infant formula, and making juice must be boiled for one minute at rolling boil. Water for hand-washing dishes also requires boiling, though dishwasher-washed dishes do not. Surface cleaning requires boiled water as well. In-home water filters are not sufficient.
All southbound lanes of 14th Street between 75th Avenue S.W. and Heritage Drive S.W. are closed until further notice due to the repair work. The city will provide water wagons to affected residents; locations and updates are available online.
This is a public-health measure. Residents should follow the boiling instructions until Alberta Health Services lifts the advisory.
