Calgary police have charged two men following a drug trafficking investigation that uncovered nearly 554 grams of fentanyl, two firearms, and over $8,000 in cash.

The investigation began in July after receiving reports of suspicious activity in the community of Braeside. Following a three-month investigation, police executed a search warrant on October 2 at a residence on Brookpark Drive SW.

The seizure from that warrant included nearly 554 grams of fentanyl with an estimated street value of $40,000; a KelTec rifle equipped with a prohibited high-capacity magazine; a handgun with a defaced serial number; ammunition; a drug scale; suspected cutting agents; and more than $8,000 in cash believed to be proceeds of crime. Police also seized multiple electronic devices from the home.

Two Calgary men have been charged: Mujahid Babekir Babekir, 26, and Shane David McWilliam, 57.

Both have been charged with numerous offences related to drug trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime, and a range of alleged firearms offences involving the possession and storage of restricted and prohibited weapons and ammunition.

Both are scheduled to appear in court this month. All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
