Calgary police scale back physical search for missing 11-year-old Parker

Calgary police are shifting tactics in the search for missing 11-year-old Parker after 12 days of exhaustive efforts that police Chief Katie McLellan said are unprecedented in her 35-year career.
More than 1,000 people from the Calgary Police Service and partner agencies have searched thousands of kilometres on the ground, underwater, and from the air since July 16. The force deployed patrol officers, civilian specialists, police service dogs, mountain bike officers, drones, and a tactical operations centre. Investigators reached out to ride-hailing companies, taxi firms, delivery services, and railways to search vehicles and gather digital evidence.
Despite these efforts, Parker remains missing. Physical search operations in Nose Hill Park and nearby waterways — his last known location — have been completed. "The reality that Parker remains missing is difficult for all of us, especially for his family, who continues to face unimaginable uncertainty," McLellan said Monday at Calgary Police Service headquarters.
The shift in approach does not signal the end of the search. Police will continue to follow up on tips, re-examine evidence, and pursue any new leads. If new information identifies an area requiring additional search activity, McLellan said, "we are prepared and ready to respond." Parker's disappearance remains deeply concerning — about 99 per cent of missing children under 12 reported to Calgary police are found safe, according to acting Staff Sgt. Scott Guterson.
