Police shooting closes Deerfoot after reports of dangerous driver

An officer-involved shooting on Deerfoot Trail forced a major highway closure Sunday afternoon after police responded to reports of a dangerous driver.
The incident began around 4:15 p.m. near Deerfoot Trail and Memorial Drive SE when officers attempted to arrest the driver. An officer-involved shooting occurred during the encounter. One person was taken to hospital with unspecified injuries; no officers were hurt.
Northbound Deerfoot Trail remained closed between Memorial and 16 Avenue NE while investigators worked the scene. ASIRT, Alberta's independent police oversight body, was called in to investigate the shooting.
