Severe thunderstorms may develop across Calgary on Saturday, June 20, as favourable atmospheric conditions move in from the Foothills, Environment Canada warned.

Thunderstorms are expected to develop along the Foothills in southern Alberta Saturday afternoon, moving east toward the Saskatchewan border by evening, when the risk is forecast to drop. The high is expected to reach 19°C with a 60 per cent chance of rain and gusty winds reaching 40 kilometres an hour.

Environment Canada reminds residents to head indoors when "thunder roars," noting that lightning kills and injures Canadians every year, and large hail can cause damage and injury. Sunday is also forecast to see a 60 per cent chance of rain with a risk of thunderstorms.
