Five Edmonton restaurants are sharing the Station Park food hall on Whyte Avenue for the next few weeks, offering Japanese-themed dishes in an effort to revitalize the space and build community.
The food hall at the corner of 82 Avenue and Gateway Boulevard sat vacant after Epic Market moved out in January. Now, rotating pop-up vendors are serving meals Thursday through Sunday afternoons and evenings.
Right now, the vendors are all focused on Japanese cuisine: Menya Mori serves ramen noodle soup; Dorinku offers Tokyo and Osaka street food; Japonais provides modern Japanese dining with downtown and Windermere locations; Hello Mochi sells mochi doughnut desserts; and Pablo Cheese Tarts features Japanese-style cheese tarts, cheesecakes, soft serve, and drinks.
Allen Gao of Menya Mori (located at 10350–124 Street) said the independent owners are "coming together and filling a space and filling a need in Edmonton." The restaurants plan to rotate out with different cuisines after this initial run. Station Park, built from repurposed shipping containers by Beljan Development and Stanley Construction, opened a few years ago as a mixed retail and food venue in the busy Old Strathcona corner.
