Three handheld dishes stood out at this year's Taste of Edmonton: a buttery lobster roll, a smoky brisket slider, and a crispy smashburger.
Blowers & Grafton's Mini Lobster Roll cost 5 tickets and delivered East Coast flavour on a butter-seared roll, complete with a crunchy slaw. The portion was smaller than the other entries but genuine — plenty of lobster with that rich, buttery taste that makes the price feel worth it.
Midnite Rooster on Whyte served a Smoked Brisket Slider at 4 tickets. The diced brisket, mixed with sauce, almost became a sloppy joe — smoky and peppery, topped with one of three sauce options. The cola sauce brought sweetness that cut the richness. The pillowy bun held it together, though a fork wouldn't have hurt.
Ribeye Butcher Shop's Smashburger, also 4 tickets, delivered the summer staple: a tasty beef patty on a great bun, zippy burger sauce, thick pickle slice, and crispy lettuce. Nothing fancy, everything right.
