Andy's Valleyview IGA is returning to the west side of Edmonton after a two-year closure, following the recent shutdown of premium grocer L'Oca Quality Markets at the same location.
The locally owned IGA operated for 60 years before longtime owner Andy Taschuk retired, becoming a neighbourhood staple known for carrying kosher products. When it closed in 2024, L'Oca Quality Markets took over the space, positioning itself as a high-end alternative with house-made gelato stations and artisanal butchery as draws.
L'Oca has now shuttered permanently. In a statement, the owners said they could not see a sustainable path forward: "Despite our best efforts, we didn't see a sustainable path forward for the business, so we have made the difficult decision to close."
IGA is owned by Sobeys, the grocery conglomerate that also owns Safeway and FreshCo. Now-hiring signs at the former location advertise the reopening as Andy's IGA, and construction efforts are underway. Sobeys has not yet issued a statement about the new location.
