Canada-wide warrants issued for Edmonton father in children's abduction case

Canada-wide warrants have been issued for Scot MacDermid, 42, on two counts of abduction in contravention of a custody order. The warrants were issued Sept. 23, 2026.

MacDermid and his children, Lesley, 9, and George, 6, were last seen Aug. 28 at Manning Town Centre, 155 Avenue and 37 Street. They were also seen in Lloydminster the same day at approximately 6:30 p.m. with an unknown man who has since been identified; police have spoken with that person.

The path of travel beyond Lloydminster is unknown, but the family may have been seen in Saskatchewan or Manitoba. MacDermid is described as five-foot-five, approximately 160 lbs, with brown hair and blue eyes. Lesley is four-foot-four, approximately 45 lbs, with brown hair and brown eyes. George is roughly four-foot-two, roughly 45 lbs, with brown hair and brown eyes.

Public was first alerted Sept. 8 when Edmonton Police Service issued a news release seeking help locating MacDermid and the children. The investigation has not met criteria for an Amber Alert. Staff Sgt. Robert Davis of the EPS Child Protection Section said in a news release: "An AMBER Alert is one tool available to police, but it is not the investigation itself. Finding Lesley and George remains our top priority. We want the community to know that we are working to locate the children safely."
