Said Ibrahim pleaded guilty Wednesday in Edmonton Court of King's Bench to second-degree murder in the March 12, 2022, shooting at Ertale Lounge, 12424 118 Ave. Ibrahim fired 29 rounds—the most of any shooter—during the attack that killed 28-year-old Imbert George and injured seven others.
Ibrahim was originally charged with first-degree murder but accepted the lesser charge with Crown consent. Both carry mandatory life sentences, but differ crucially on parole eligibility: first-degree murder requires 25 years minimum; second-degree ranges from 10 to 25 years. Prosecutor Kerri Facchinutti and defence lawyer Akram Attia are expected to present a joint submission on parole ineligibility, though details remain unconfirmed. Sentencing is adjourned until after September 4.
On the morning of March 12, 2022, five men drove to the lounge just before 3 a.m. Four shooters exited a red Ford Focus and opened fire on its crowded patio, discharging 66 rounds in 21 seconds. George was leaving the bar with his wife and friends when struck by four bullets, including one to his right forehead. Seven others required surgery for organ damage. One patron inside returned fire, narrowly missing another person.
Police linked Ibrahim through security footage showing a man in a black balaclava firing with an extended-clip handgun, and DNA evidence from the discarded weapon and a balaclava found in the Ford. Ibrahim and two others surrendered after police cornered them in a driveway. A fourth shooter, Samar Mohiadin, jumped from the vehicle and was later convicted of first-degree murder with no parole for 25 years. Driver Mohamod Mohamod received eight years for manslaughter. A fifth suspect, dubbed Shooter 2, fled on foot and remains unidentified. Another man, Saed Osman, absconded after bail and is wanted on Canada-wide warrants.
