Anyone with a soy, fish or gluten allergy, or celiac disease, should not eat the honey and garlic sauce sold at Atwater Market. The product from Boucherie Les 2 Frères does not declare soy, anchovy (fish) or barley on its label, according to a warning the Ministère de l'Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l'Alimentation du Québec (MAPAQ) issued Friday with the city's food inspection division.
The sauce is sold only at the butcher's stall 9 at 138 avenue Atwater. The warning applies to every lot whose label makes no mention of the three allergens.
The seller is recalling the product and agreed with MAPAQ and the city to issue the warning as a precaution. The recall carries Canada's highest risk classification, Class 1, which MAPAQ reserves for a reasonable probability of serious health consequences or death. MAPAQ said no allergic reactions linked to the sauce have been reported so far.
Anyone holding the sauce is told not to eat it. Anyone who develops symptoms after eating it should consult a health professional. Consumers with questions can write to smsaia@mapaq.gouv.qc.ca, reference 5837.
