The claims period for a $7.5 million class action settlement tied to a listeria outbreak linked to Silk and Great Value plant-based beverages closes Friday, October 16 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific time (2:59 a.m. Saturday Montreal time). After that deadline, you cannot collect a cent.
In July 2024, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency recalled a range of Silk and Great Value almond, oat and coconut beverages sold across Canada. The recall was linked to a listeria outbreak that resulted in three deaths, approximately 20 serious illnesses and roughly 15 hospitalizations nationwide. Danone Canada, Walmart Canada and Intact Insurance were named in a class action filed in Montreal. The companies deny the allegations but agreed to settle. The Superior Court of Quebec approved the settlement on April 17, 2026, and claims opened on June 19.
Anyone in Canada who bought or drank one of the recalled products is eligible to claim. If you got sick, cash payments are based on symptom severity: $400 for symptoms lasting up to 48 hours; $1,500 for 48 hours to one week; $7,000 for more than a week without hospitalization; up to $30,000 for hospitalization without lasting complications; up to $150,000 for hospitalization with serious complications or permanent effects; up to $300,000 for death. Family members living with the main claimant may also qualify for additional compensation.
If you bought the products but didn't get sick, you can claim a refund through Danone Canada's voluntary refund program, which closes the same day.
File your claim online at PlantBeverages-Settlement.com. You don't necessarily need a receipt — proof of purchase, saved packaging or a signed declaration that you bought and drank the product is acceptable for most claims. More serious claims require medical or pharmacy records. Submit claims to Concilia Services Inc., the settlement administrator, by the deadline.
