Two people in their 60s critically injured in Saint-Leonard stabbing; 26-year-old arrested

Two people in their 60s were stabbed early Saturday morning inside an apartment in Montreal's Saint-Leonard borough, and a 26-year-old man was arrested near the scene.

Officers were called at approximately 5:20 a.m. to an apartment on Viau Boulevard, near Jean-Rivard Street. Both victims—a 68-year-old man and a 66-year-old woman—suffered stab wounds to the upper body and were transported to a hospital in critical condition.

According to Montreal police spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant, the arrested 26-year-old was taken to the detention centre and is expected to meet with investigators. A police perimeter was established in the area as the investigation continues.

Both victims are now out of danger, Montreal police confirmed. Police have not yet announced what criminal charges, if any, have been laid against the arrested man, and the motive for the stabbing remains unclear.
