A commercial building in Montreal's Lachine borough was destroyed Thursday night by a major fire—the second blaze at the same location in a week, prompting investigators to treat the incident as suspicious.
Firefighters were called to the scene on Du Pacifique Avenue, near Montreal-Toronto Boulevard, at approximately midnight. The fire quickly escalated to a two-alarm response, with approximately 145 firefighters deployed to battle the blaze and prevent it from spreading to neighboring buildings. Crews remained on scene for several hours as flames tore through the structure.
The building suffered extensive damage and is considered a total loss. No injuries were reported, and no occupants were inside at the time. Several nearby buildings were threatened by the fire, and vehicles stored in the garage area of an adjacent auto repair business may have sustained damage.
Because a fire occurred at the same location on June 16, the case has been transferred to the Montreal Police arson unit for investigation. The eastbound Highway 20 ramp leading to the Honoré-Mercier Bridge was temporarily closed during firefighting efforts.
