The Ottawa Police Service Robbery Unit has charged a man following a retail robbery at a downtown convenience store on Tuesday, July 28. Just before 7:30 a.m., the suspect entered a convenience store in the 100 block of Rideau Street, demanded merchandise, and was refused by staff. He then assaulted a staff member before leaving with stolen merchandise.
OPS officers located the man a short distance away and arrested him without incident. The suspect, 34-year-old David Charette, faces charges of robbery, breach of probation, and uttering threats. He was held in police custody and scheduled to appear in court Wednesday morning.
This incident continues a pattern of retail robberies downtown. HighOnCity reported in June that police were investigating an armed robbery in the same area, and another robbery and assault occurred on Dundas East in June as well.
