Firefighters arrived to find a Stittsville home fully engulfed in flames Thursday evening after multiple 911 calls reported fire spreading across the roof.
The single-family home is in the 6000 block of Fernbank Road in Ottawa's west end. Crews received the first call at 6:44 p.m. and quickly discovered flames had spread across the roof of a garage and into the house itself.
All occupants evacuated safely before officials arrived. Additional resources were brought to the scene to contain the blaze, with crews spraying water on the burning building. Two searches of the structure were conducted, and the fire was declared under control by 8:17 p.m.
Victim services were brought to the scene to assist the family. An investigator is looking into the cause of the fire. The extent of damage and estimated loss for the property have not yet been determined.
