The next Canada Child Benefit payment reaches eligible families on Tuesday, October 20, with amounts varying based on children's ages and household income.

Families with children under age 6 can receive up to $679.75 per month (up to $8,157 annually), while those with children ages 6 to 17 receive up to $573.58 per month (up to $6,883 annually).

The Canada Revenue Agency uses indexation to adjust benefit payments for inflation and cost of living—amounts rose 2 per cent in July. The benefit is non-taxable and does not need to be reported on tax returns.

To qualify, you must live with the child, be responsible for their care and upbringing, and be a Canadian resident. Foster children already receiving the Children's Special Allowance do not qualify.

Families caring for a child with a severe or prolonged impairment in physical or mental functions may also qualify for the Child Disability Benefit, worth up to $290 per month per eligible child. Two more payments follow this year: November 20 and December 11 (moved forward from its usual date).
