Quebec families will receive their August Canada Child Benefit deposit Thursday, August 20, with payments reflecting the higher amounts that began in July under the 2026–2027 benefit year.

The maximum monthly payment is now $679.75 for children under 6 and $573.58 for children aged 6 to 17, an increase of roughly $160 and $135 per child respectively over the previous year. Over a full year, these ceilings amount to $8,157 per younger child and $6,883 per older child.

Not all families receive the maximum. Payments are scaled to household adjusted net income, with the full amount reserved for families with income at or below $38,237. Beyond that threshold, payments shrink gradually as income rises, with faster reductions in households with multiple children.

Families raising a child with an approved Disability Tax Credit can receive an additional $284.25 monthly through the Child Disability Benefit, though that top-up begins phasing down once household income exceeds $81,222.

Depending on province or territory, additional programs can add as much as $300 more per child monthly. Because the Canada Revenue Agency combines all payments into a single deposit, the amount in an account may include both federal and provincial shares.

Two conditions must be met to receive the CCB: being the main caregiver of at least one child under 18 and qualifying as a Canadian resident for tax purposes—a category covering citizens, permanent residents, protected persons, and those with 18 months or longer of temporary resident status.

For new parents, birth registration typically triggers the benefit automatically. Those applying later can use CRA My Account or mail completed Form RC66 to the nearest tax centre. Both parents must file tax returns annually—even with no taxes owing—or deposits will stop.
