Liberals regain ground in federal race, climbing to 49% support among decided voters

The Liberal Party of Canada has regained ground in federal voting intentions, reaching 49 per cent among decided voters in a Leger poll conducted September 5–7, 2026.
The Liberals climbed 3 points since August and now sit near the 50 per cent high reached in June. The Conservative Party stands at 33 per cent, down 1 point. The Bloc Québécois holds 7 per cent, the NDP 6 per cent and the Green Party 3 per cent.
Satisfaction with the federal government led by Prime Minister Mark Carney also improved. Fifty-seven per cent of Canadians are satisfied, compared with 36 per cent dissatisfied—up 3 points since August. Approval of Carney's performance stands at 58 per cent, with 34 per cent disapproving, also up 3 points.
The survey of 1,538 Canadians aged 18 or older carries a margin of error of ±2.5 per cent, 19 times out of 20.
However, regional differences remain pronounced. Liberal support reaches 59 per cent in British Columbia but only reaches 16 per cent in Quebec, where the Bloc Québécois stands at 29 per cent. In Alberta, Conservative support dominates at 64 per cent.
The Liberal gains coincide with improved views of both the government and Carney himself. Among Liberal voters, 91 per cent are satisfied with the government and 92 per cent approve of Carney's performance. Among Conservative voters, those proportions drop sharply to 21 per cent and 23 per cent respectively.
