Low-income workers across Canada will receive Advanced Canada Worker Benefit (ACWB) payments October 9, marking the second payout this year.
The ACWB is a refundable tax credit designed to support working people earning below provincial income thresholds. The latest payments have been increased by 2 per cent to keep pace with inflation and rising living costs.
The benefit has two components: a basic amount and a disability supplement. Maximum payments for a single individual with no children are $1,665 (including the recent increase). Families can receive up to $2,869, and those eligible for the disability tax credit can add up to $860 more.
To qualify, you must earn working income, be a Canadian resident throughout the year, and be 19 years old or older on December 31 — or live with a spouse, common-law partner or child. For the disability supplement, you must have an approved disability tax credit form on file with Canada Revenue Agency and meet the net income threshold for your province or territory.
The last ACWB payment went out in July. This credit complements other federal and provincial support programs and arrives ahead of the Thanksgiving long weekend.
